The Jets Stood No Chance

Many believed heading into this game that the team that won the 3rd quarter would likely go on to win the game as these were the best two 3rd quarter teams in football. That was not the case as the Jets scored the quarters lone touchdown and held the Pats to a field goal. The fourth quarter is a different story as very few teams have played the Pats to that point(hats off to the Jets). Yes, the Patriots have had 4 of 6 games decided by one possession but most of those were late touchdowns or field goals and then an onside kick attempt to make the games look less one sided, and the Jets game was no different. For the first time this year we got to see how mentally tough and how this Pats team performed in the clutch. The result? Nearly identical to the ending of Super Bowl XLIX, the last time the Patriots played a top ranked defense. Brady and the Pats entered the 4th quarter down 20-16 before Brady would go on to complete 14 of 17 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the quarter en route to a 23-30 victory4th quarter. Not without the help of yet another( and another) Danny Amendola circus catch. The last two games Tom Brady has headed into the 4th quarter trailing have been against the best defense in the league at that respective time, in those situations Brady has completed 27 of 32 passes for 275 yards, 4 touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a quarterback rating that comes out to 142.1. He also added the largest comeback in Super Bowl history to that list, again both top rated defenses. Since this article is not just about Tom Brady, but the Patriots as a whole, I can give credit to the rest of the team that came up big. Danny Amendola made yet another game winning/ leaping/ spinning catch against the Jets played his best game of the year for the second consecutive week. Gronk was Gronk, even though he may have scored the easiest touchdown of his career in the 4th quarter. These Patriots aren’t invincible, no one is, but if you plan on beating this Patriots team your lead going into the final fifteen minutes should probably be more than four or seven or ten. The Patriots schedule isn’t exactly hell, but this Jets team is no push over and if the Patriots lose a game this year I would not be surprised if it came at the hands of a New York team. It was a valiant effort by the Jets, but like the case has been for the other team too often throughout his career, in the end it was just too much Tom Brady.
